At one point, I tried replacing the shell on a faulty DS Lite unit with a clear repro shell. It was a disaster. A frustrating process with lots of tiny parts and I struggled to work out what went where when I was putting it back together. In New Year 2018, when I was looking for a new challenge, I decided I wasn't going to let this one beat me and built a number of these refurbished DS Lite consoles until I felt I had mastered the process. I made a few fun consoles along the way! It also led to a good understanding of the console which helped when developing the Neon Advance.
