dmg
game boy
The original Game Boy's model number is DMG-01 and as such is commonly referred to as the DMG in the modding community. Still my favourite Game Boy console to modify and use, its timeless design, satisfying ergonomics, excellent battery life (even with a backlight) and great handling of sound make it an excellent choice for making chiptune music with LSDJ. The most popular modification to do with this console is to install a backlight panel (these and more accessories for Game Boy modifications can be bought on a range of specialist suppliers. In the UK, I highly recommend Deadpan Robot's website here). Other modifications include installing a hex inverter or "bivert" chip to increase contrast on a backlit screen, adding "prosound" stereo line out connections that bypass the headphone amplifier and produce a clean stereo output for performing or recording music, internal lighting, cosmetic modifications with different shells, buttons etc or adding extra switches to enable different functions. Prosound modifications can be either "pre-pot" (direct line out signal for volume controle via an external mixer etc) or "post pot" (allowing volume control via the game boy itself)
